Gayna
Bassin teaches traditional violin and viola to students
from age 7 to adult, with emphasis on reading skills,
technique and musical style. The Bassin Strings Studio
is located in Montgomery, Ohio. She has been a faculty
member at the Cincinnati String Academy at the Center
for the Arts in Wyoming, Ohio, since 1997,
and she also teaches at Cincinnati
Country Day School.
Mrs.
Bassin received a Bachelor of Music Degree from the
Curtis Institute of Music, where she studied with
Ivan Galamian, Jaime Laredo, and Jascha Brodsky.
She received a Master of Music Degree from Indiana
University at Bloomington, IN, where she studied
with Josef Gingold. She studied chamber music with
members of the Guarneri, Curtis and Budapest Quartets.
Mrs.
Bassin was
a member of the First Violin section of the Cincinnati
Symphony
Orchestra
from 1976-1996, and played Concertmaster with the
Cincinnati Community Orchestra from 2003-2004.
She currently freelances and performs
often with Musica Sacra in Cincinnati.
She
has performed in many international music festivals,
including
the Blossom Music Festival (Kent State University,
Ohio), the Tanglewood Music Festival, the New York
String Orchestra with Alexander Schneider, the Casals
Festival in Puerto Rico, and the Orchestra
de les Jeunesses Musicales with Leonard Bernstein
and Michael Tilson Thomas.
She
was a soloist with the Colorado Philharmonic Orchestra,
the Windsor Symphony, and the Cincinnati Community
Orchestra. She has also played many solo and chamber
music recitals in Cincinnati, Dayton and Indiana.
